چکیده

Background Advanced measures of cardiac mechanics such as left ventricular (LV) strains can be used in conjunction with classical biomarkers to gauge cardiovascular health and improve prediction of patient outcomes. Several imaging techniques, including displacement-encoded magnetic resonance imaging (DENSE), are used to non-invasively assess cardiac mechanics. These data are predominantly acquired in two dimensions (2D) due to simplified postprocessing and shorter acquisition times; however, this type of acquisition and subsequent analysis cannot account for through-plane motion caused by longitudinal contraction of the left ventricle. We hypothesized that through-plane motion has a significant effect on 2D strain estimates.

for the global estimate, and increased for the segmental estimates for all SSFP estimates (5% vs. 9%, respectively). The variability between masked and original SSFP estimates was largest for ExMyo and Contour estimates. Through-plane motion is likely to introduce errors in strain. Because tags are created orthogonal to the image plane, the tagging strain estimate is more robust to through-plan...

Angle-independent and multi-dimensional myocardial elastography--from theory to clinical validation.

The angle-independent myocardial elastography, which shows good performance in our proposed theoretical framework using a three-dimensional, ultrasonic image formation model based on well-established, 3D finite-element, canine, left-ventricular models in both normal and left-circumflex ischemic cases, is employed as well as validated in vivo to assess the contractility of normal and pathologica...

Calculation of three-dimensional left ventricular strains from biplanar tagged MR images.

The noninvasive measurement of time-resolved three-dimensional (3D) strains throughout the myocardium could greatly improve the clinical evaluation of cardiac disease and the ability to mathematically model the heart. On the basis of orthogonal arrays of tagged magnetic resonance (MR) images taken at several times during systole, such strains can be determined, but only after heart motion throu...

عملکرد سیستولی قلب در بیماران سیروزی کاندید پیوند کبد در مقایسه با گروه کنترل

Background: We assessed different systolic cardiac indices to describe left and right ventricular dysfunction in cirrhotic patients before liver transplantation. Methods: In this case-control study, eighty-one consecutive individuals with the confirmed hepatic cirrhosis and candidate for liver transplantation in the Imam Khomeini Hospital between March 2008 and March 2010 were selected. T...

Echocardiographic assessment of myocardial infarction: comparison of a rat model in two strains

The purpose of this study was to induce myocardial infarction (MI) and compare the echocardiographic parameters and mortality ratio of Lewis inbred and Wistar outbred strain before and after the procedure to help choose the best one for MI studies. In this study MI was induced in 46 Lewis and 34 Wistar by occlusion of left anterior descending artery (LAD). Doppler, two-dimensional (2-D) and 2-D...
